Origin Stories: An Anthology of Beginnings
The return of Forest’s anthology – aptly titled “Origins” – brings with it writing that’s at turns precise, musical, urgent, playful, and abstract. These imaginative pieces disrupt the boundaries of writing while maintaining key concerns – what do we carry into new beginnings, and what legacy do we leave behind? The writers featured here surprise and challenge, they cut a fresh path for readers willing to follow.

An original and eclectic anthology filled with quiet wisdom. Brilliance as always from the team at Forest Publishing.

Who are we before we have the language to say our own name? What is it like to have a son—and to fail to love him? Where does it all start? This anthology on beginnings, is reflective and moving, but in moments, is also delightfully absurd with the zing of freshly grated lemons. I have tucked away several names of writers whose works I now wish to stalk, study, follow—which is one of the best gifts of reading a varied collection such as this.

In the hands of these talented writers, beginnings are not only the promise of what’s possible – though they are that, too. Within these pages, beginnings and endings dance together. Doors are opened a crack, or flung ajar; stories and poems of origin look back at where we’ve come from, and forward to where we’re headed. Anyone who loves invitations will love this anthology.
