if there is any trees to be stored prior to the beginning of the show, then they can always be stored at my studio on clerk st. if neccessary. get in touch if you have trees to deposit.

thanks - glad you like it.

that's the number i've got too but it's the general council number i think - easier to email them methinks, more chance of speaking to the right person that way.. will do that now.

I'm working every day, but if it would help, I can do a hunt around Marchmont and drag a few to the front of my place. So if somebody's doing a round, stop at 54 Marchmont Rd sometime after tomorrow 5pm.

Could also help to arrange forest within forest some evening, just let me know

That's great - Stephen and me are going to bring up the ones from clerk st tomorrow night and i will also drag up what i can from leith walk on the way, i reckon we will need around 30 -35 to do the job properly... can't wait to see it finished...

2 things to watch out for when 'installing': firstly if we can keep them as close to vertical as possible this is good. When we get enough of them i think it all will be more self supporting, but it ain't quite there yet, so it does take a bit of fiddling about to get them standing up nicely, but i think it's worth it.

Also it would be good if we can pretty much clean up as we go along as otherwise we are going to leave the entire forest knee deep in xmas tree needles. i have semi-taped off the gallery to try to discourage random punters/actors/drummers/musos etc from taking up residence in the space and spreading stuff about before we fill it...

See below for the email i got from the council: pick up should be no problem - we just need to ring them to arrange this next week (and i have the guy below's numbers, including mobile, I just didn't want to post them up here). I call him but i need to know when we want to do it: I am away from very early am on weds 15th through lunchtime on the 19th. I'm happy to be there to help with the get out/clean up but it would have to be either daytime on the weds or after 1pm on monday 19th - not sure how that works with the London show. Alternatively we can leave the timing of the take down as suggested below to the council (either friday or monday am) though someone might need to be there just to clean up/point the council blokes in the right direction. Let me know what you think?

All looking good, will bring some more up tonight and fix up the string for the 'viewing platform' too - that should be about it

Mike

That should be fine, if you could call me nearer the time, say w.c 12 January 09 with an idea of how many trees, etc.

great work, that's good news. In my eyes, its better to dispose of the trees early and have the gallery empty for a couple ' days in case there are problems on the closing weekend and we get stuck with them. That said, i will be working between 8-6 every weekday, which means i may not be around to help.

Also the walls could do with some tlc before the londoners get here- do we know when they plan to install?

The 'worst case scenario' is that he council won't come on to the premises for insurance reasons so someone might have to pass the trees out the door to them, though I'd be surprised if they were that pedantic about it. Basically just that and sweeping up afterwards...

Unless anyone can sort it earlier, I will be in on Sunday anyway for the FOH meeting so i'll come in early to sort the gallery as best as i can.

Go for it. Someone took down the wet paint signs yesterday and before I could fix it, it was too late and someone had paint on their coat.

even after i told people gallery shut as wet paint they decided to stay and ignore me
me and mike were thinking about some kind of industrial shutters for doorways to close in such circumstances
i am becoming much more militant in my old age about such matters, it was really annoying after stephen had spent all day painting too, thanks stephen, and then to have coat fluff stuck to it.

its saddens me really , its a simple request and it benefits everyone if the gallery and the cafe looks good . not to mention the hard work by steve .

its shame to have doors for these reasons . i guess if we had , you could of locked them in and it would of been a zoo .
