a VW

Post by bill » Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:13 pm

do we want a rad old VW camper van. i have a ridiculous and stupid idea that we should somehow park it in the gold room as a sweet ass seating area? my friend has a cool one which is mechanically challenged.

ok?

could the engine be fixed? if so, then it would be cool for the world tour!, but if its going to cost a fortune or too much time then seating in the gold room it is....

I'm not sure how you're going to get it into the gold room, but it could be awesome.
I've had it with you. If I had an image of a laser gun I would absolutely position it right here in my hand...
Ha! I have a real laser absolutely positioned in my hand!

Just drive it through the wall! Worry about the mess afterwards. Remember, the most fun way of doing something is often the best way of doing something!

The front window of the red room is cracked anyway and will need replaced at some point.
The listening post could be on a sound system inside the camper van, and maybe the forest shop could be in the back.

It would be cool, but if we need to remove the window to get the VW inside, we'll need to remove the window if we want to get it out again.

Or have a 'how to deconstruct a VW camper van' workshop to facilitate removal.

the more I think about this, the more I like it. We should chop the roof off and have a table in the middle. Or keep the roof on and make it a ball pit, you might have to climb through the sunroof though.
The window is a problem, but if we can successfully do it the first time when putting it in, then we will know how to do it again when taking it out?

Anyone looked into the health and safety rules about things like having a VW van parked in the front room of a Cafe? i think its,
Clause 212
Section F
Subsection 9873
Sub-subsection "vw van in room"

Its the future! Surely????

I am into it. How much would it cost to get that window replaced? I wouldn't want to pay for it twice though - I think we'll have to chop it to bits, inside, when we're done. We can make an event of it. I think there was a whole show in the fringe about a guy destroying vehicles to some sort of musical score. Sounded heavy.

does the window need to be replaced anyway? didn't someone say it was cracked?
Would be ace to turn it into another canvas for artists to show their work. I can just see a VW camper with Magdas artwork all over it right now....would be ace!

Yes, the window is cracked. It doesn't need to be replaced immediately, but it would be prettier. I'm just saying that we'll need a way to get it back out again, sans replacement. Destroying it until it will fit through the door is a-okay with me.

We will need to clean the shaggin wagon before it gets installed, otherwise the cafe will smell like a garage, and there will be sump oil on the floor.

Yeah, will need to drain all the fluids e.g. petrol, oil, water, coolant. Will also need to spray the whole of the underside very thouroughly (correct spelling?) with powerhose, to get rid of the oil and grime, as well as cleaning the wheels properly. can all be done in a couple of hours though.
You could just remove the engine altogether leaving just the chassis and body. can fill the bonnet with plants!

There would be a lot of workand a lot of sparks when dismantling. COuld we do it in that small space. Porbably, but need to make sure we can before we shove a van in their. Either that, or if we ever have to move to a different venue then we should rebuild the engine a drive it through the front of the building. :D

Taking the engine out before we put it inside sounds like a very good idea. It will be easier to chop up and dispose of in the end. It will also be easier to haul through the window. This reminds me of my days on the GM line!! (Except the opposite.)

Admittedly, I have never removed an engine. I've only seen them go in. Is it that difficult if we just want to get it out, and don't care about usability in the end?

greetings from ny, the best city in the world!

i used to have one of these things (at one point i had 2!) removing engine is a big job and shouldn't be attempted without the proper gear (which only a garage will have). john forbes on meadow lane might do it for free if you donate the engine to him. maybe. then you just have to find a way to push or tow the wagon to the forest, and thru the window...
