a new list from New York's W222 (the greatest list maker!)

Its new year, time for lists. Here's my favorite songs from 2006:

Since I only include songs I heard broadcast on radio or other such
internet media or out on the world, great songs from albums ("Kilo"
Ghostface Killa, "Waiting to Know You" The Fiery Furnaces, "Wolf Like
Me" TV On The Radio) recieve the honorable mentions.

10 - "White And Nerdy" - Weird Al
When I heard this I said "This guy is totally doing Weird Al's thing
better than Al has in years." Then I realized it was the actual Weird
Al, reborn. Not making fun of "Ridin' Dirty" so much, but a better
song. In fact, Al's rhymes are tighter than most any hip hop jams from
this year. A triumph.

9 - "Steady As She Goes" - The Raconteurs
Not even a great White Stripes song, but still awesome. A triumph.

8 - "World, Hold On (Children of the Sky)" - Bob Sinclair
Heard in Euro, totally Euro. But his name is Bob and the song features
Steve Edwards, totally not Euro. A triumph.

7 - "Be Without You" - Mary J. Blige
'Call the radio if you just can't be without your baby' is my favorite
ridiculous lyric of the year. Mary is still great. A triumph.

6 - "Temperature" - Sean Paul
'Wanna be the Papa...You can be the Mom....oh oh!' is my second
favorite. Relelntless. A triumph.

5 - "Young Folks" - Peter Bjorn and John
I heard this one time dancing. Enough to make to the top 5. A triumph.

4 - "Is It Any Wonder?" - Keane
A great rock band song. In fact, a triumph.

3 - "My Love" - Justin Timberlake
In the last decade, who has done more to further everything musically
great than Timbaland. My hero. A true triumph.

2 - "Cash Machine" - The Hard-Fi
Loved it from the second I heard it over a Canadian radio station.
Sounded like a long lost classic, but it was new. Yes, a triumph.

1 - "Crazy" Gnarls Barkley
Across the board favorite. Superior. Everything you could possibly
want in a summer jam. The year's triumph.

He's quite right with the Peter Bjorn song. A quiet triumph.
