8pm Film Meeting 28/5/7
8pm Film Meeting 28/5/7
It is about time we had another meeting to decide films for the next month or two.
The first week of June, some cyclists are passing through Edinburgh on their way from Aberdeen to Vienna. This is some artistic/environmentalist enterprise and the Forest is sponsoring them. It was suggested that we come up with a film to mark this - something to do with cycling/the environment.

What happened last night? I thought we were going to show Lolita - the BB and the posters said so. But then some people said that it had been shown 2 weeks ago. Not according to this thread. I ended up showing The Thing which was the first film I found in the cupboard, which some people enjoyed.
Why do things never go according to plan? Also, we need to rewire all the shit so that it goes through the decks. We're back to the dog in a box.

I showed Lolita on April 23rd, as per the changed schedule. Was that not right ? Keep forgetting to pick up the DVD, so possible it's been played again since.
edit :
Looking closely, it looks like nothing was rescheduled for May 21st when it got adjusted. Unless one of the other Kubricks was assumed, but the discussion of that suggests that it was just a pick of one of the three, Lolita.

I love the bomb.
I think I managed to confuse myself with the incomplete list. Sorry for confusing everyone else too. People seemed to like The Thing, and it was maybe only Pomme and me who missed Lolita.
Any ideas for a cycling/environmental film? Bellville Rendezvous has the bikes but everyone has seem it probably.

Bicycle Thieves came to mind. Can we source any of these suggestions?
DVD rental
I rent DVDs online and would be happy to rent any films that you want to show if they are available.
Both Bejing Bicycle and Bicycle Thieves are available to rent.

Thanks, Graeme. Beijing Bicycle sounds fun - not the classic that Bicycle Thieves is, but maybe more popular with the Joe Lunchpails who wouldn't know Italian neo-realism if it bit them in the culo, and who start talking if they aren't getting their fix of gore, sex and swearing.
In the absence of other suggestions, I would try for Beijing Bicycle if you can get it for the 4th. Sweet.

I've started having a look here :

One great double bill might be The bicycle Thieves and Pee Wee's Big Adventure, which apparently have the same plot.
Saying that, I'd love to have a couple of short documentaries as well. Thinking of Red Light Go. Doc about New York couriers alleycat racing.

Good list. What is it with stealing bikes?
If we are going to do a double bill with Bicycle Thieves, we need to team it up with Icicle Thief.

Icicle looks cool, but it's a bit of a tangent off The Bicycle Thieves, which would be great but not the most original.
Did I just make a bad pun ?

I remember when...
I used to take part in the Edinburgh Critical Mass rides, happy days.
Which got me thinking about films like We Are The Traffic and Still We Ride.
Does anyone have either of these films?

I'm working in the kitchen from 7. If you turn up at 8, Magda, we can have a short meeting, assuming no one else turns up. It would be nice to agree on some films for June, as I have the events poster ready apart from some film titles.
My suggestions:
4th Cycling film (Beijing Bicycle/Bicycle Thieves + Critical Mass short, what ever arrives on time)
11th Mystery Men (super hero piss take, great cast, based on old Flaming Carrot comics, can provide DVD)
18th and 25th some stuff that didn't get shown earlier, e.g. the Fassbinder and Henry Fool + House of Yes, or something like that.
