Just to clarify the electricity situation: There are sockets in the room which are wired up to each other in a ring. This ring is not connected to either the consumer unit in the ground floor hallway, or to the one in the Infoseed room. I cannot find any power cables coming out of the room that migh...

It was loose wires. There are two troublesome cables. One is the crossover one that connects the hub to the wireless router. This doesn't seem to clip very reliably into the hub end, and it was this one causing the problem. The other is the normal one that connects the server to the hub. This is bad...

This is now fitted and working. The old one is hanging in the front window, warding off evil spirits. The delivery note is in the office if needed for accounting. For future reference, when working on the grill you should wear rubber gloves. The insulation inside is fibreglassy stuff that will make ...

100 plastic keyboards for 99p each:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0165821829
How many nights a year does it rain? How many wet keyboards will start working again when they dry? How long will it take a 200 quid metal keyboard to get wrecked?

<i>there is absolutely no way we will save money via this electronic key thing. absolutely not. a mortice lock new cost 20/25 squid. each key costs 2.30 squid.</i> mechanical: 20 quid for a lock + 2.30 each for 10 keys = 43 quid electronic: lock with 10 keys included = 57 quid So it's 14 quid more i...

Okay, on the keyfob systems front: There are systems like this all over eBay from Hong Kong sellers for about 20 quid plus whatever customs fucks you for when you import it. Note that this does not include the lock mechanism itself, just the controller and key fobs. Here's one for example: http://cg...

Metal trackballs might be less susceptible to that though. This is the cheapest metal keyboard I can find though, 200 quid: http://www.keyboardspecialist.co.uk/product/keyboard_type/ruggedized/KBS599B/IP+Rated%2C+Panel+Mount+%2D+Stainless+Steel+Keyboard.htm For that price we could just use plastic o...

Actually I think the outdoor keyboard idea has some potential, if only because it'd be such an unexpected thing to find on the street that it would get people's attention and stop them just walking past. But it done it should be just one machine, so that it takes up the bare minimum of precious fron...

So where the hell are these "radge proof" keyboards? I don't believe it for a minute. Anyway, more seriously: The window and what goes in it is absolutely crucial. At the moment it is just a barrage of posters and flyers that doesn't even let you see through to the rest of the space. We need to deci...

I dug around in the office bunkroom and found the power adapters for the flatscreen monitors. I have tested them all and left them on the shelf with the monitors. There are three monitors, two matching white ones and a smaller grey one. I suggest we use the two white ones for the front room and save...

Well, if you want to really think outside the box, then I think ideally the kitchen would be in the front room. That would sure make the cafe more obvious from the street, and everyone would have to go past staff to get in, and all the rest of the seating and facilities would be in the back. Ain't g...

Yeah, one key is a problem. It will get "lost", a new one will have to be made or the lock changed, and then you will find out that it was actually in someone's pocket and is now in circulation along with umpteen copies, which are being used by people to get drunk and sleep and piss in there. We hav...

At the relatively cheap end for card access are systems like this: http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/sasssekm/one-door-prox-controller-with-integral-reader-570-p.asp This uses proximity swipe cards, which seems to work out the same price or cheaper than the magnetic swipe type these days. Car...

James - yes, that should be possible as per the other one. It has big 30A cable on it though so it may be necessary to replace that with a fresh 13A cable to take the new plug. Laura - I'm keeping track of all the current levels and fuses here, don't worry. We'd be running each dimmer at under half ...

Hi, Last night on James' request, myself & some of the Dorkbot crew had a look at the lighting gear on the balconies. This is what we found out... don't know how much of this was known already. We have sorted out the working lights from the dead ones, there are eight working in total and these are n...
