Artists Facillities meeting wed 9th sep

Post by Stephen » Tue Sep 01, 2009 4:31 pm

Hi there, on Wednesday 9th on september at 7 pm there will be a artists facilities meeting.

On the agenda this month is

The caves, making it into a recording/rehersal space.

finding funding for producing records for forest records for bands we like and sending them tour

including producing album art work in screen printing which includes getting silk screen up and running as a workshop

Talking about finding funding for the hall as a venue, now that we have awards and reviews people might just believe us.

balconies and future uses including storage.

and the shity job of cleaning the workshop and dark room, ways forward etc,

who's going to take care of the darkroom, do we want a room lying dormant

and the crafty room

basically what do we want to use the rooms for, is there another way to organise things, can our facilities actually be facilities that work and people want to use

If you want to have your say and be involved come to this meeting or post comments here, read the minutes after and come and help out.

Thanks everyone

I thought Dan (can't remember his surname) was looking after the darkroom? He came in just before the Fringe to help deal with flooding and stuff on floor. He also trained someone to use it around 5 weeks ago.

I have a vague memory that he was maybe away for a bit. Might be worth dropping him a mail to let him know you are having a meeting.

I'm just thinking it's good to have rethink, discuss it and go from there, maybe things will stay the same, hopefully things will get better and become more prductive,
Last night elodie spoke to some one who has recording equipment that has no home and wants it to be used at the forest, Amazing, hope he comes to
So do come along to this meeting, all concerned and all that want to be concerned.

AF, coolies.

so yeah, could anyone please advise on the apparent impending balcony situation of doom? or was Gareth incorrect? or is this something that should be FWG only and hasn't been mentioned in the private forum as of yet (if so i'll edit my above post)?

I saw two shooting stars last night, i wished on them, but they were only satellites.

that (possibly due to a fire inspection?) the balconies above the action room are to close.

who said this,

we were thinking about reducing studio space to make space for storage of hall equipment building materials etc,

this will all be discussed at the meeting, nothing to do with fire regulations etc

come come

i thought gareth had said it was due to a fire inspection or some such, but i could have been confused and he could have been confusing.

matias explained when i was in yesterday [as in before midnight] that there were thoughts to closing the balcony studios near the organ so that a) it doesn't get damaged and b) so that there is a forest tech and dorkbot storage and project working area.

not like this couldn't have been stated when i asked in the first place though! :P

p.s. fraid i can't make it, got a date at the edinburgh techmeetup that evening.

I would like to add this guy, Paul's, request to the agenda...

I have advised him to contact TotalKunst, and if that does not work for him that Forest might be able to find a way to do a wee exhibition.

Hi Nix

Good to talk to you on the phone the other day. My new cartoon / activist
book 'SPEECHLESS: WORLD HISTORY WITHOUT WORDS' has just
been launched

http://www.speechlessthebook.org

and I reckon it might well be The Forest's cup of tea for an exhibition. I've
lots of materials that would make an excellent display, including one
interactive piece that the audience complete.

Have done 2 events so far, one in Manchester and another at Shambala
festival- both big successes, and have 2 more coming up, one in Leeds, one
at the ICA in London.

It doesn't need to be a large room or exhibition- the material can expand or
contract to fit the space!

If you're interested, I'd then get in touch with Scotland FoE and see if they'll
get involved (FoE are the co-publisher) and promote it as the Scottish
launch of the book.

I can supply posters and flyers etc etc

cheers

Paul

PS rest of my work can be seen at http://www.polyp.org.uk I've some originals of
this kind of work in hand made frames that could also be displayed...
