September stuff
Re: September stuff
HI all,
Im finally getting my head around this board ( thanks mike!!)...
Couldn't make the last meeting, but was thinking about this EAF (?) stuff...
Could we not do a 'series' that was based on 'long distance' work... I'm thinking "Suitcase Series" - for artists to submit ( on an ongoing basis, with no deadlines) an idea how to use/alter the gallery space and send a set of instructions how to do this.( with maybe a possibility to send over something relatively small/light) . We would take it on ourselves to DO/facilitate/install this in the gallery ( with a time guidelines of half-day or so.) This could be done in a form of 'workshop' so that it can be advertised as an 'open' event, but it would not really have to be reliant on any particular turnout. ( I am very willing to be there as one of the people carrying out the instructions, as im really interested in the idea, and i do not think it difficult to find at least a person or two in addition). We could then shoot some documentation of the 'installation' and send it also back to the artist. Could also make a nice TotalKunst publication...
THese ideas have been kicking about in various formats ( postal art etc.) for ages but for a gallery I see some pros: low cost and hassle, audience participation, potential high visibility (something easy to promote on the concept-experimentality-curiosity-basis), a kind of continuity, and a lot of flexibility - this kind of thing can take a short term slot, even a day or two - as well as longer show, totally depending on the submitted ideas - which we would know about ahead of time, of course. And it would be good to have an idea or two in store? ... the best could be used for EAF, or around that time.
For the artists it does not cost anything, they get potentially a show as a part of the 'Suitcase Series program' and images out of it and for people who like working more relationally this might be a nice opportunity.
I would be willing to promote - 4 or 5 artist networks spring to mind immediately...
Just something for you guys to think about.
another thing, if there are some running jobs, i could take some on

Re: September stuff
This may be the last piece of business for this thread...
the industrial Kunst gang left their photos on the wall and some promotional material about the place. because the photos are on photo paper etc. i assume they will be coming back to collect them i have bundled it together and put it in the right hand cupboard.
i'll send them an email from yahoo but if anybody sees them or has a number please let them know where to find their stuff.

Re: September stuff
one thread to rule them all
should probably start a new september thread but i couldn't resist resurrecting this barnacled behemoth.
Alice suggested recently that it might be an idea to rethik the length of our shows... We have always done two week shows pretty much arbitrarily and it definitely has its positives but--
if we moved to one month shows in september we would effectively reduce the amount of artist facilitation that the group needs to do as well as the amount of website updating, promoting, securing images etc. which would leave more people more time to promote the gallery, foster relationships with other art organisations and come up with cool new ideas for how to use the gallery space- just an idea, what do you guys think?

Re: September stuff
yes , am for 3 weeks shows . but we dont always have to them that long ,althought having different lengths may cause more trouble . September could be a mega month slot giving us a rest and then 3 weeks .

Re: September stuff
just in case you don't get my telepathic message, why 3 week shows and not one month ones?
i think one per month good idea, it means more chance of seeing all shows as easy to miss them and will cut down on costs too....always good in this credit crunch period!

ok
have been ruthless on submissions, there are quite a few to go through and i think it would be a good idea to go through them at the start of the next meeting when our minds are fresh as daisies.
