i vote Brazil by Terry Gilliam - that takes place at Christmas. i think its interesting to explore the distinction between Xmas films and films that merely take place during Xmas (e.g. Die Hard, Gremlins...)

i like the idea of films which just happen to be set around christmas like die hard. Personally i hate gramlins, but i'm not sure why.

what about 'The Message', it's amazing becasue you never see the star of the show...

I'm with Martin on the whole Christmas film thing. The idea of Film Night is to show stuff that has artistic merit and/or films that are worth seeing but hard to find, plus the odd bit of fun crap to keep people on their toes.

Having a whole month of (fun?) crap is going a bit far in my opinion. But it seems that the masses have spoken and if that's what you want, then that's what you'll get.

I can't decide between any of the above suggestions. You have to be able to get hold of the films, which will narrow the list down a bit. Who ever gets a film of theirs chosen should help out in the kitchen or stick around to tidy up afterwards.

Ghandy - do you want to pick the Christmas films? The Mondays in December are 3, 10, 17 and 24. If you plan double bills, it is best to start at 8, rather than 9pm.

I'll PM some trade secrets if you are up for it.

Does there really have to be an entire month of christmas films? Do you not think forest should oppose the stretching of a simple winter feast into a lengthening orgy of trite, strained, insincere crap?

miserable buggers.
Its Christmaaaaaasssss. I propose we only play smaltzy christmas films, and listen to Slade's greatest hits. In between songs and films we should have a cosy fireplace projected onto the wall with crackiling noises playing. We should put decorations up, and drink Egnogg (whatever the hell that is!). I'll also look in to hiring a reindeer. :D
I shall dress up as Santa and shout the words HO HO HO to passing ladies.

I bought it on DVD for my dad last year, could ask him to post it back up here for us for a bit. Or there's the nudge-nudge-wink-wink*cough*bittorrent*cough* route.

I would agree with this. But Bad Santa is a treat!

Martin, you should be able to activate your html usage on your profile page. But you shouldn't need to put tags. Just type a web address and it will automatically be linked.

Bad Santa is good enough to show at any time of the year.

December 2007 will go down in history as the month that the Forest let people choose films. And this mistake will never be made again.

Also we should be showing,

'Dinner For One' on New Year's Eve.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner_for_one

James: The same procedure as last year, Miss Sophie?
Miss Sophie: The same procedure as every year, James!

'It is a curiosity that this sketch has become a tradition in Germany, where up to half the population may see it every year, but it is almost totally unknown in Britain. It is also shown on New Year’s Eve in many other mainland European countries, particularly Scandinavia, and also screens on SBS in Australia. In Norway, however, it is shown every year on the eve of December 23. It is known as far away as South Africa. In Sweden, the show was put on hold for a period for six years, deemed "unsuitable" because of butler James' heavy drinking. However, the TV network then caved in to the popular demand to have it back.

Although the sketch is most popular in non-English speaking countries, it is typically shown in the original English without dubbing or subtitles. Curiously, the film remains practically unknown to the English speaking world (except for Australia). It has never been broadcast on TV in Britain.

Since the mid-1980s, German television channels have been available to British analogue satellite viewers, meaning that the new year screenings of Dinner for One could be seen in the UK by those few people who had access to German TV schedules. The replacement of analogue services by digital has seen a decline in viewers of traditional satellite television, but those who still own a receiver can tune in.'
