Post by bill » Fri Nov 02, 2007 8:29 pm

there is a lovely woman who makes nice cakes, scones, brownies, flapjacks etc etc by hand. she supplies the pavillion and they are cheaper and more home made than breadwinners. don't know about vegans worth a chat with her. she has made some gluten/wheat free cakes i know.
her name is rowena, the company are just starting up called hot cakes her number is 07759210173

also what do we pay for falafel? the pav pays 10/15p a falafel and they a good.

Our falafels have a certain Aroma about them. They are a bit more expensive, but our guys will deliver the goods at very short notice sometimes.

They cost 27p each. I think the cost went up recently without it being mentioned. I think they used to be 20p. I keep meaning to ask about it.

Feel free to chat to the people who do it for Pav. But, the last time we tried to switch, they couldn't supply as much as often as needed.

Cakes - vegan is a necessity. And prices. I'm happy to consider changing.

she can make vegan cakes. we just tell her. cakes cost between 12-14 pounds.

she would like 2 days notice, but sometimes can do shorter.

delicous tray bake cakes like brownies, carrot cakes, chocolate and banana brownies etc are 12 quids for 20 of them (60p each) they are slighty smaller than breadwinners. wheat and gluten free ones are slightly more.

she says feel free to ring her to talk further.

I think we pay about 10-11 quid for cakes from breadwinners. Don't know the brownie price off the top of my head.

I REALLY liked what I tasted.

Can we give it a go? Anyone against? For a one or two off trial?

If some are smaller maybe we should sell at £1.45 or something, just to mark the difference.

Or should we stick to what we always have?

Delivery coming on Saturday. Still not sure if prices compare. Should still order brownies from Breadwinners.

I just spoke to Roweena again.

She can only deliver on Saturdays at the moment. I've ordered two cakes and a tray of flapjacks.

She can do a tray of 20 flapjacks for £10. 50p each.
Cakes are still at £12
I've also ordered a half tray of brownies to try. A full tray of 20 is £14. 70p each.

At the moment, Strombolli slices are 65p each. Cakes are £10 each.

Roweena's cakes are far superior in every way. I nearly cry every time I eat a slice of her cake.

Yes, the cake is superior, but I think we should stick with flapjacks and brownies from Breadwinner - unless these new brownies are amazing (and vegan?!) It would be good if she can pre-slice the cake. They are a bit smaller and hard to get 14 slices. Might have to go to 12. The flapjacks looked nice but are significantly smaller than the ones we get now.

I spoke to her about the flapjacks. I think she's going to make them larger.

I seriously think they are better. They're more wholesome and feel like they've actually done some good. And they don't make your teeth hurt.

AND, they're 50p each.

The people do not want wholesome cakes. They want rot. And sugar. I haven't actually tasted them yet, for what it's worth.

My other concern is quantity. If it's only once per week, maybe we order some, but still get the others as well?

Okay, so tonight at behind the scenes we talked a lot about prices and what's happening in the kitchen. We need to tighten our belts. We need to watch things carefully. We have not been breaking even. So, even though I think the cakes are nice, I would suggest that maybe it's not the way to go. We cannot get 14 slices out of the cakes and they are the same price as Breadwinner, yes?

Right,

So, we're getting cakes and she's marking them out into 12.

We're getting brownies £12 for 20.

Her stuff is the dog's sugary bollocks.

For your information Chris, there's more to sorting this than simply phoning, placing an order and everything being magically and immediately cool. Roweena had to take a step back from her business for a while. Plus, it's a new business for her which will not immediately present itself as perfect. Plus, we have more overwhelming and present stuff to attend to.

Come speak to me next time you're in.
