Tree for Ellie at Forest

Post by dan » Sat Nov 21, 2009 5:34 pm

Hey there,

so as many of you know a good friend of Forest, Ellie, died earlier this year. Ben ,her husband, along with other folk wanted to plant a tree for her in Edinburgh, and since she was really involved with the Forest we were hoping to plant it in the garden, along with a little plaque or something like this. How do people feel about this?

The tree will be a silver birch, as requested by Ben.

Let me know thoughts, and if it's ok'd then is there a good place to put it? Is anyone on the garden right now who I should speak to?

Thanks,

Dan xx

Great ...

Blue still has an overview of the Garden ... and was the last to do something.

sounds a great idea.

blue is meant to be the garden coordinator, though i don't think he or anyone else has been active in keeping it sorted (it's full of nettles atm).

Of course. But is the garden really the best place to put it? If we end up leaving the building will something happen to the tree?

actually very few nettles which is a shame. There is absolutely no problem with a birch tree in tha garden, i have seed packets for flowers to make a memorial bed for Ellie, was also gonna do something for Jack. The tree can be planted in a sunken pot, there are some very big ones so it could happily live for a long time without being moved. Planting too close to the buildings may be an issue with roots and the buildings structure, so a big ol pot would be best. It will look like is planted eh.

I would love to prepare the space before the tree arrives, does anyone want to help?
It would be lovely to turn the garden back into something yielding, and mix this with a place to remember those we have loved that have journeyed on....
Sometime this week i guess.

I totally like the idea of something for Ellie and Jack too. x

Fantastic! Both for Ellie and Jack. In its moment I had given some seeds to Baloo to maybe do something for Ellie. But the garden hasn't been attended for a long while and it certainly needs care, anyway. I would love to be able to offer muscle power for the work in the garden but I'm afraid it is not a good idea for me; however what I can do indeed is to offer reposition of energy through a platter of sushi, Miso soup and thick Spanish Hot Chocolate... Any one wanting to partake in the feast?? 8)

Susana - we haven't planted it yet! Ground was frozen. So don't worry you can still be involved x

people, what is happening with this? Is it still time to plant something? I am expecting a bunch of bulbs from a Guardian offer and can give very many of them to our garden..
