From 2pm yesterday Glasgow University students have been occupying the top floor of the computing science building in solidarity with the people of Gaza in the midst of their horrific humanitarian crisis. We have submitted a number of demands to the university, including two petitions signed by almost 1000 staff and students calling for the University to promote the DEC appeal and to break links with arms companies which have been illegally selling weapons which have been used in war crimes. We feel that up until this point, the University has been unhelpful in maintaining lines of communication and responding to our initial demands (which include a request for freedom of movement and one for there to be no repercussions against participants). University security have given us conflicting information over the course of the occupation and at times been confrontational. Last night we were locked into the building and no one was allowed in, including press. Students were also told that if they left they would not be allowed back in. As I type we are in (finally) in negotiation with University staff. So far we have had no concrete response.



WE NEED SUPPORT. PLEASE COME TO DEMONSTRATE OUTSIDE THE COMPUTING SCIENCES BUILDING ASAP. SPREAD THE WORD. CONTACT UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT TO DEMAND FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT FOR ALL SUPPORTERS AND PRESS AND TO GENERALLY SHOW SUPPORT.
