What is a Bootleg

Post by ravanwin » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:16 am

A bootleg is an unapproved live recording of a musical event. Tapes, video, and cds of these shows can be widely circulated or hard to find. And so, we would like to celebrate this illicit and exciting medium with a day of Bootlegs. All day on Tuesday October 25th you can bring your Boots to the Forest and we will play them. We can share and trade. If you don't have a bootleg, look up your favorite band, begin the hunt. (carefull, it can be addictive.

So: from 10am - 11pm bring your favorite bootlegs. Jazz, Punk, ska, metal, rock, folk, rap, regae, captain beefheart, whatever.

I will post a sign up sheet for time slots closer to the day. Happy Boot Hunting.

i have a fall live recording on md.

but "bootleg" is not restricted to live recordings. it refers to an recordings or duplication made without proper permission / liscence. so for example, one of the labels i work for makes vinyl "bootlegs" - limited edition...
