Stop G8 Japan speaking tour - come to Edinburgh

Post by dan » Fri Jan 11, 2008 2:22 pm

Hey there is this something the Forest would maybe be interested in?

Below is information about G8 info tour coming to UK this february as
part of european tour.
In summary the person coming needs translator, accomodation for him
and possibly a translator and help with travel costs. I am very busy
at the moment and away from 25th jan for 1 week so help needed to
co-ordinate the tour if its to go ahead.
So far there is interest expressed in Brighton, (me) London, (dean?)
cardiff, (the pad) bristol, (kebele) leeds, (common place?)
Please can other cities/towns reply to me to say if up for organising
something and also anyone who can help with overall planning let me
know. The person email who i am in touch with in japan is
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for any other specific questions. They are liaising
with the person who is coming.
thanks,

X is thinking of doing 12 or 13 cities in total, including the top 5
cities that you previosuly recommended, which are Brighton, London,
Cardiff, Leeds, and Bristol, looking like 7 or 10 days between Feb. 15
- 29.
one. Since the presentation will
be centered around a prepared text, X says he can probably manage that
part, but he is not confident enough with English so as to engage in a
discussion, and plans to ask his friend who attends London Uni to
translate for him. X hasn't decided yet if to ask the London Uni mate
if we can come on the whole tour, or if he should find other
translators
for each city.

Regarding expenses, X would appreciate it very much if his hosts can
somehow manage to come up with travel money within the U.K. (for both
X
and translator) and daily expenses (accomodation, etc. for X). The
flight money to England shouldn't be so much if he can use a stopover
with BA, but would apprecaite it if he can receive a little bit of
donation, other than the travel and daily costs, in support of the
whole
infotour. X will obviously be bringing merchandise such as T-shirts to
try and generate tour money as well.

It would be cool to have an event, like we did with the feedback from Russia last year, but I'm not sure about translators and expenses, etc. A bit could probably be cobbled together from the community action or events budget.
